An excellent defender with an eye for attacking, Ashley Cole came into prominence following the injury of Selvinho in 2000/01 as a replacement. He worked well with the Wenger's Arsenal system of counter attacking down the left flank and with his excellent form, he caught the eye of England's manager and was called up for the World Cup 2002.
